Natural treatment for diaper/nappy rash

How to heal your baby’s sore bottom naturally!
Diaper rash is usually caused by the reaction of the baby’s skin to a wet and soiled diaper. The baby’s bottom, thighs, and genitals can become red, inflamed, sore and spotty. The rash can sometimes be infected with candida (a thrush fungus) if the baby or breastfeeding mom has been given antibiotics, or has oral thrush
Homeopathy offers a range of treatments that can be used as an alternative to steroid and anti-fungal creams.
The following homeopathic remedies can be given in the 30c potency, two to three times daily, for up to 7 days. The tablets or pills can be crushed between two spoons or dissolved in water. One crushed pellet, or a few drops of the remedy in water = a dose. Homeopathic remedies are completely, safe and can be given to young babies.
To treat diaper rash naturally with homeopathy, the most suitable remedy must be selected. Read the following indications for each remedy, and choose the one that best matches your baby’s symptoms.
Hepar Sulph – Baby is very sensitive to pain and to cold temperatures, and cries terribly from the pain. Baby is very sensitive to the affected area being touched. The diaper rash may be infected, with pus that has a foul smell like rotten cheese. Baby prefers being wrapped up and warm, very sensitive to being uncovered.
Graphitis – Dry rash that oozes a thick, sticky, yellow discharge. This diaper rash is often found in the folds of the skin, dry, red, cracked and very itchy. Honey-like discharge that crusts over.
Sulphur – Very itchy. Baby scratches herself raw. Rash gets worse in contact with water, especially warm water, and getting over-heated. The rash is dry and itchy, and is often found around the anus area. The rash is hot to touch.
Rhus-tox – If the rash is very itchy, swollen and red with small blisters.
Medorrhinum – Bright red shiny rash, often caused by Candida “thrush diaper rash”. Raw and may be bleeding.
Mercurius – Diaper area is very moist and sweaty. Baby sweaty and producing much saliva.
In addition to the remedies above, using Calendula cream/ointment topically for the rash is often very helpful. Calendula cream is natural, made from the Marigold flower.
Make sure the baby bottom gets “air time”, free of diaper in a warm and dry room, or outside. When washing, avoid any soaps, using water only.
Please stop giving the remedy after improvement. If symptoms return you can repeat the remedy over a couple of days. If no improvement after a few doses of a remedy, I recommend that you try a different remedy that matches the symptoms well. If you find that you need help in choosing the correct remedy, please be in touch for an acute appointment.
