Lone Pedersen DCH MNHL

I 'discovered' homeopathy 25 years ago when conventional medicine wasn't working for a skin condition that had been troubling me for some time. I had no previous experience with homeopathy, but decided to try it as a “last resort”, in hopes of getting relief from the pain and discomfort I was having on a daily basis. Much to my surprise, the symptoms that had been bothering me for the past 3 years, left completely within 2 weeks following the homeopathic treatment. This rapid and dramatic improvement sparked an interest into this natural form of medicine; an interest that would change the way I came to understand health and dis-ease, and the body's amazing capacity to heal with the support of homeopathy.

After years of choosing homeopathy as the primary form of health care for myself and my family, I went on to study homeopathy at Vancouver Homeopathic Academy, one of North America’s most respected schools of classical homeopathy. I have been in private practice in Seattle, WA, as well as internationally, via my online clinic, for the past 15 years.

I always continue to expand on my knowledge in the ever evolving field of homeopathy, by pursuing studies with some of today’s leading homeopaths. In addition to English, Lone is fluent in all the Scandinavian languages.

Lone is particularly interested in homeopathy for mental health conditions in children, teens and adults, and brings extensive experience in this area to her practice.

About Homeopathy

  • Natural action: Homeopathy works by stimulating the body’s own natural healing mechanism to promote health and to resist infection and susceptibility to disease. Although gentle, the results can be powerful and long lasting.
  • Effective medicine: When applied correctly, homeopathy is an extremely effective system of medicine, providing long-lasting relief from many acute and chronic conditions and illnesses.
  • No harmful side-effects: Homeopathic treatment offers a gentle and non-invasive approach to health, producing no toxic side-effects, no dependency, no addiction, or withdrawal symptoms. Homeopathy is safe for people of any age, including babies, pregnant and nursing women.
  • Not tested on animals: Homeopathic medicines are tested only on healthy humans to determine the range of action of each remedy. Homeopathic medicines are never tested on animals.
  • Environmentally friendly: Homeopathy has no adverse impact on the environment, with no waste of energy or natural resources in the manufacturing process. No  pollution of the water supply, oceans and dump sites, when used. Homeopathy is the ultimate Green Medicine!
  • Holistic: A complete and holistic system of healing. Homeopathy was developed in Germany in the 1700’s and has been holding its own as a healing modality in the US, Great Britain, Europe, Asia, and around the world for over 200 years. Homeopathy is the second most widely used system of medicine world wide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy embraces a holistic and individualized approach to the treatment of illness, whether emotional or physical. Holistic means that a prescription of the individualized homeopathic medicine is chosen to match the symptoms of not only a specific diagnosis, but the person with the diagnosis. Homeopathy customize each prescription to fit the person, as every one of us experience symptoms in our own unique way. Homeopathy treats each person as a whole, rather than focusing on a diseased part or a disease label,  e.g.10 people suffering with the same illness, whether depression, anxiety, grief, chronic migraines, insomnia, allergies, or any other label. will most certainly experience their emotional and physical symptoms unlike anyone else. They are most likely going to require completely different homeopathic remedies to treat their illness based on the overall symptom picture specific to them.

Homeopathy is a natural, safe and gentle form of medicine used by hundreds of millions of people world wide. Homeopathy is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the second largest therapeutic system in use in the world today.

How is homeopathy different from conventional medicine?

Homeopathy is based on the natural "Law of Similars". A substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person, can restore the same symptoms in a sick person. An example of this can be if you peel an onion your eyes may start to burn, itch and become watery. Your nose may itch and run, with sneezing. If you experience similar symptoms during a cold or with allergies, the homeopathic remedy Allium cepa (red onion) given in micro doses (homeopathic preparation) would help your body heal itself from the symptoms associated with your cold or allergies.

Homeopathy looks at the symptoms the body produce, physical, mental and emotional, as signals of imbalance and compromised health. The homeopath prescribe based on the individuals symptoms unique to them, rather than a specific diagnosis. Prescribing a natural, gentle and side-effect free medicine based on all the symptoms the sick person is having, enables the homeopath to give just one medicine that covers all of the symptoms, rather than one medicine for each diagnosis.

Homeopathy has the additional advantage of working with the body in its ongoing attempt to heal itself, rather than suppressing and numbing symptoms. Many conventional medicines like antidepressants, antihistamines and antibiotics (anti) are used to suppress, manage and kill, often with artificial and temporary relief. The homeopathic medicines aids and supports the body in its attempt to restore health and balance to the whole system.

Conventional medicines attempt to control symptoms with the disadvantages of symptoms often returning when the medicines are stopped. In addition, most conventional medicines come with undesirable side-effects, some mild, others  severe. Homeopathy do not subscribe to the 'one size fits all' approach to treatment. It recognizes that no two people are the same and will exhibit symptoms of disease in different ways. Two people with allergies are likely to require different medicines based on their individual symptoms. Homeopathy aims to assist the body in removing the symptoms of disease by stimulating the natural healing response, leaving the person healthy and vibrant with no further need for medications, homeopathic or otherwise.

The origin of homeopathy

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that originated with the work of the German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), who as well as being an experienced orthodox physician was also a competent chemist, a good mineralogist and botanist, and an able translator of eight different languages. He discovered that patients with certain diseases could be treated with substances that produce similar effects. He termed this principle ‘similia similibus curentur’ – ‘let likes be cured by likes’, otherwise known as the ‘similia principle’ or ‘law of similars’. Although the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates – the founder of western medicine – was the first one to moot the idea of curing ‘like with like’ more than 2,000 years ago, it was Hahnemann who made this principle into a system of treatment.

Hahnemann spent several years experimenting on himself, his family and a group of followers, testing a wide range of natural substances, such as plants, minerals, metals, etc. In fact, he was the ‘father’ of experimental pharmacology. He and his colleagues catalogued over 200 medicines, primarily of plant, mineral and animal origin. Each substance was tested, i.e. taken by healthy volunteers who kept detailed records of their physical, mental and emotional reactions. The reported symptoms of these experiments –’homeopathic pharmacodynamics’– were compiled in a Materia Medica. Repeating this type of experiment led him to observe and describe the basic principles of homeopathy.

Another observation arose from his desire to minimize the harmful effects of the medicines which doctors were using. He did this by repeatedly diluting and succussing (shaking) each medicine to reduce its potential to cause harm. What surprised him in his use of these preparations was that the more stages of dilution and succussion the drug had gone through, the greater its potential to heal quickly, gently and without harm to the patient.
