OCD and intrusive thoughts – a mental and emotional prison
For many years, I have been treating patients who suffer with OCD and intrusive thoughts. The patients who come for help have in common the level of severity of the intrusive thoughts, and how the disorder disrupts, and at times destroys, the quality of every day life for them. Intrusive thoughts can feel like a mental prison.
The majority of the people I have seen over the years have thoughts that are so persistent and disturbing in nature that it makes it extremely challenging for them to go about their daily affairs, such as; job, studies, family, friends and social activities. People talk to me about how they feel ashamed, fearful, exhausted and depressed. Often, it is something they keep hidden from others, out of fear that people are going to think they are disgusting, crazy or someone to be feared. So, on top of the disturbing intrusive thoughts, there is the added stress and anxiety of keeping the disorder hidden. This is not the case for everyone, who do have loved ones they confide in, but for many, it remains hidden.
Homeopathic consultation for OCD and intrusive thoughts
When I first meet with a new patient, I want them to feel completely comfortable and at easy. For some, it can be the first time they are sharing how they feel and what they are going through in secret and behind ´closed doors´. They may feel vulnerable, nervous and ashamed to tell me about some of their most disturbing thoughts. It can be thoughts of religious, sexual and violent nature that can be quite scary to admit to. Intrusive thoughts often includes repetitive behavior and rituals, and can be about so many other issues than those mentioned, but they can still be difficult and sometimes embarrassing to talk about.
The homeopathic consultation is gentle and completely free of any judgement. It is a safe place for the patient to express themselves without worry or concern. I set aside at least 1,5 – 2 hours for the first appointment, to go into all details about the patients current concerns, as well as previous health history. The detailed information I receive from the patient regarding the specifics of their intrusive thoughts, and how it affects them, is crucial for the choice of the homeopathic medicine I end up selecting for the individual person. Homeopathic prescribing is so precisely tailored to each individual suffering with intrusive thoughts, as they are so vastly different in nature and expression from person to person. There is never a one-size-fits-all in homeopathy, there is no single remedy for intrusive thoughts in homeopathy, it is always based on the symptoms and expression of each unique individual.
You can heal!
During my many years in practice as a classically trained homeopath, I have seen first hand how permanent healing is possible in mental and emotional health problems. Gradual and gentle improvement over time, months to a year or two, depending on the severity and how long the person has been unwell.
